Every journey has a beginning. Ours began with a simple question.

During the long months of the COVID-19 pandemic, when courtrooms fell unusually quiet and life slowed down, we found ourselves with something lawyers rarely have—time.

Like everyone else, we started reading the news every day.

But while most people were following the grim headlines, we often found ourselves drawn to the stories hidden away in the corners of the newspaper. Curious disputes. Unusual court decisions. Legal questions that made us stop for a moment and say, “We didn’t know that could even happen.”

Those stories stayed with us.

They reminded us that the law isn’t found only in courtrooms or thick law books. It lives in ordinary lives—in the choices people make, the problems they face, and sometimes in the most unexpected moments.

One day, almost without thinking too much about it, Rajiv looked up from yet another unusual legal story and said,

“Why don’t we write about these?”

That was the beginning of everything.

There was no business plan. No grand vision. No roadmap.

Just curiosity.

Looking back now, it is remarkable how far a simple question can travel.

We began building Lawful Talks one day at a time, with much more enthusiasm than experience.

Writing came naturally. Building the website was another story altogether. Technology had a wonderful way of reminding us how little we knew. Thankfully, many patient people helped us along the way. Looking back, we realise Lawful Talks was never built by just the two of us.

Those days tested our patience more than once. Today, they simply make us laugh.

At first, we wrote simply because we enjoyed writing, with no expectations of where it might lead.

That was enough.

Then something unexpected happened.

People began reading. Then they came back. Some sent us story ideas. Some politely disagreed. We were grateful for every one of them.

Without realising it, Lawful Talks had stopped feeling like a blog.

It had become a conversation.

And that conversation changed everything.

Judges, lawyers, law students and readers from every walk of life began writing to us. Many appreciated the stories, but they also encouraged us to keep going.

As we kept writing, one story quietly led to another. Before long, our curiosity had taken us beyond our own borders, where we discovered remarkable legal stories that rarely appeared in Indian newspapers. Sharing them simply felt like the natural thing to do.

Looking back, it never felt like we were changing direction.

As we kept writing, we slowly realised that it wasn’t always the biggest stories that stayed with us.

More often, it was the unexpected ones.

A landmark judgment. An unusual legal dispute. A memorable exchange in a courtroom.

Or a story that reminded us that behind every case are ordinary people trying to solve very human problems.

Whatever the story, we have always tried to tell it honestly, fairly and in language that anyone can understand. We have always believed that the law should never feel distant or intimidating. It belongs to everyone.

Every story carries responsibility.

Behind every judgment is a family, a business, a community or a life that has changed.

Behind every courtroom exchange are lawyers, judges and litigants who deserve to be represented fairly.

Like everyone else, we sometimes make mistakes. When we do, we correct them. Because that is what our readers deserve.

One of the happiest surprises has been watching Lawful Talks grow into something much larger than the two of us.

Our interns bring fresh ideas, endless enthusiasm and a wonderful habit of reminding us that there is always something new to learn. Lawyers and law students regularly write asking if they can contribute. Watching young people eager to learn, question and participate continues to be one of the greatest rewards of this journey.

As Lawful Talks grew, the website needed a fresh look.

The wonderfully creative team at BotBakery Ink & Impact patiently transformed our ideas into the website you see today. They also showed remarkable patience every time we confidently announced,

“Just one last change…”

It rarely was.

Looking back, we suspect they knew that long before we did.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of all has been the people we have met without ever meeting.

Today, readers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, China, Canada, Brazil and many other countries read Lawful Talks alongside readers from every corner of India.

Every new country still feels like a little gift.

We never imagined a simple idea would travel so far.

When we think back to those quiet pandemic days, it is difficult to believe that one simple question would become such an important part of our lives.

As we look ahead, our hope is simple—that we never lose our curiosity.
