Judge Goes Viral for Savagely Putting Rioters in Their Place

In response to directions from the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi in W.P.(C) No. 10159/2024 dated July 25, 2024, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued new guidelines recommending a minimum stipend for junior advocates. The guidelines acknowledge the financial challenges faced by junior advocates and aim to provide some economic relief, while also promoting mentorship and skill development.
According to the BCI’s circular, senior advocates and law firms are encouraged to pay junior advocates a monthly stipend of at least Rs. 20,000 in urban areas and Rs. 15,000 in rural areas for a minimum of three years. Recognising the diverse financial capacities within the profession, the BCI emphasized that these guidelines are not mandatory but are recommended for equitable professional development.
Additionally, the guidelines urge senior advocates to provide mentorship, court exposure, and guidance in legal research and drafting. Senior advocates and firms are also encouraged to maintain transparent records of engagement terms and stipend payments, with annual reporting to State Bar Councils.
