Judge Goes Viral for Savagely Putting Rioters in Their Place
The Centre has cleared the resolution passed by the Supreme Court Collegium on 25 August 2025, recommending the elevation of two Chief Justices to the Supreme Court. The presidential notification was issued within 48 hours of the collegium’s decision.
Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court (Parent High Court: Madhya Pradesh), has been appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court without any dissent.
Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court (Parent High Court: Gujarat), has also been appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court. His elevation, however, was approved by a 4–1 majority, with Justice B.V. Nagarathna recording a dissent. She referred to his transfer from Gujarat to Patna in July 2023 as a considered move endorsed by Justices M.R. Shah (retired), Vikram Nath, J.B. Pardiwala, and then Gujarat Chief Justice Aravind Kumar, cautioning that overlooking these inputs could erode institutional credibility.
The President has appointed Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi as Judges of the Supreme Court under Article 124(2) of the Constitution, effective upon assumption of office.
