The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on August 6, 2026, has recommended the elevation of four judges as Chief Justices of various High Courts across India.
Justice V. Kameswar Rao, currently serving at the Delhi High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Ravindra V. Ghuge, who is presently Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
To fill the resulting vacancy at the Bombay High Court, the Collegium has proposed Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court as its next Chief Justice.
Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, has been recommended to continue as Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
The recommendations are subject to the formal process for appointment.
