Wait is Almost Over! Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Bombay High Court Complex on September 23

The countdown has begun! In just two days, the much-anticipated groundbreaking ceremony for the New Bombay High Court Complex will take place at Taj Lands End Court, Bandra (West), on September 23 at 17:35 hours.

The New Bombay High Court Complex has been a long-overdue necessity, as the current building, though historic, is severely overcrowded and outdated. With the surge in cases and growing demands on the legal system, the existing structure struggles to provide adequate space and modern infrastructure. The new complex, set to be built in Bandra (West), will offer larger courtrooms, improved technology, and easier accessibility, making the judicial process more efficient.

This modern facility will also ensure better case management with digital systems and enhanced security, while future-proofing Maharashtra’s judicial system.

The momentous event will be led by Chief Justice of India, Dr. Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, with an impressive lineup of dignitaries. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Ajit Pawar and Shri Devendra Fadnavis, as well as esteemed Supreme Court Judges Justice B R Gavai, Justice A S Oka, Justice Dipankar Datta, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, and Justice Prasanna B Varale, are all set to attend.

Presiding over the ceremony will be Hon'ble Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya of the Bombay High Court, with Advocate General Dr. Birendra Saraf and Additional Solicitor General of India Shri Devang Vyas also in attendance.

But an important question that arises here is: Why did the High Court administration keep the 'Ground Breaking Ceremony' shrouded in mystery? There was no information available for lawyers and the general public. No Notice about the same is uploaded on the website.

The one Notice dated September 23, 2024, uploaded on the Bombay High Court's official website indicates that the second session of the day will take place from 2:15 PM to 4:15 PM. However, it provides no explanation or mention of 'Ground Breaking Ceremony.'
