Centre Approves Appointment of Three New Supreme Court Judges

The Central Government has cleared the appointment of three High Court judges to the Supreme Court of India on 29th May 2025 following the recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 26th May, 2025.

As per official notifications issued by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, the following judges have been appointed as Judges of the Supreme Court:

  • Justice Nilay Vipinchandra Anjaria, currently serving as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. His parent High Court is the Gujarat High Court.
  • Justice Vijay Bishnoi, the present Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. His parent High Court is the Rajasthan High Court.
  • Justice Atul Sharachchandra Chandurkar, serving as a Judge of the Bombay High Court.

The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India. The notifications state that the judges will assume office upon taking charge.
