The Supreme Court Collegium after its meetings held on 20th and 24th March 2025 has officially repatriated Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court following a controversy over a fire at his residence on March 14, 2025. On the same day, the Delhi High Court withdrew his judicial duties, adding to the unfolding situation.

Reports alleged that burnt cash was discovered in an outhouse storeroom, but Justice Varma dismissed the claims as a conspiracy to malign him. He clarified that the storeroom was a communal space, and no credible evidence supported the allegations.

A report by the Delhi High Court Chief Justice’s office did not mention any cash recovery, and Justice Varma pointed to social media posts linking him to an unrelated 2018 case as part of a smear campaign. He has since called for an independent inquiry into his financial records to clear his name.
