Former Kerala High Court Judge Duped of ₹90 Lakh in Cyber Scam

Former Kerala High Court Judge J. M Sasidharan Nambiar has allegedly lost ₹90 lakh to a cyber scam. Justice Nambiar allegedly transferred the money to invest in a fake share trading app via a WhatsApp group called ‘Aditya Birla Equity Learning Group’. He was promised 850% returns by way of online share marketing, following joining the WhatsApp group.

The first information report (FIR) was registered at the Hill Palace police station stating that Justice Nambiar transferred the money to invest in a fake share trading app via a WhatsApp group called Aditya Birla Equity Learning Group.

He invested ₹90 lakhs in less than a month, between the time span of December 4 and December 30, 2024 before he learnt it was a scam.

Ayana Joseph and Varsha Singh are the two accused people named in the FIR.

Offences punishable under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66D (cheating by impersonation using a computer resource) of the Information Technology Act, were included in the FIR.
