Reliance Industries Amongst Others File Trademark Applications for ‘Operation Sindoor’

Just hours after India’s cross-border military strike “Operation Sindoor” was announced on 7th May, 2025, Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries Limited became the first to file a trademark application for the term. Over the course of the day, three more entities followed suit, each seeking exclusive rights under Class 41, which covers entertainment, education, and cultural services.

According to public records, the following applicants filed trademark claims for “Operation Sindoor” between 10:42 AM and 6:27 PM on 7th May, 2025:

  • Reliance Industries Limited
  • Mukesh Chetram Agrawal, a Mumbai resident
  • Group Captain Kamal Singh Oberh (Retd.), former Indian Air Force officer
  • Alok Kothari, a Delhi-based lawyer

Each application includes the phrase ‘proposed to be used’, indicating an intention to deploy it for commercial purposes. All filings were made under Class 41 — a category typically used by OTT platforms, broadcasters, production houses, and event organizers.

‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched by the Indian armed forces during the intervening night of May 6 and 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation follows the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 25 Indian nationals were killed.
