The long standing issue of having a circuit Bench of the Bombay High court at Kolhapur, in Western Maharashtra, has gained momentum with a formal notice being circulated by the Advocates Association Of Western India( AAWI),the prominent Bar Association of the High Court in Mumbai.

A special general body meeting is to be held on 16.7.2025, at 5 pm, says the circular and members of the Bar are being invited to attend the meeting in Room Number 36, the official Bar Room within the Bombay High court premises.

The meeting’s primary objective is to deliberate, discuss and pass the formal resolution. If a bench of Bombay High Court is created in Kolhapur that will be addition to the ones in Nagpur, Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhaji nagar) and Goa besides its principal bench in Bombay.

Speaking at a felicitation on June 26, 2025, at Aurangabad, the 52nd Chief Justice Of India (CJI) BR Gavai stated that he supports such a demand adding that, justice should be available to every citizen in every corner.

"Every time there is a demand for the Kolhapur bench of the Bombay High Court, I have supported it and given the example of the Aurangabad bench," CJI Gavai had said.
