Satire Under Scrutiny: Bombay HC Seeks Maharashtra Govt’s Response in Kamra Case; Next Hearing on April 16

The Bombay High Court while issuing formal notice to the complainants has sought response from the Maharashtra State government in the plea filed by Kunal Kamra to quash FIR registered against him over alleged objectionable remarks about Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde during his stand-up special ‘Naya Bharat' is now adjourned to April 16,2025.
The bench of Justice Sarang V. Kotwal and Justice Shriram M. Modak has kept the matter for further hearing on April 16, 2025 at 2:30 PM.

Such adjournment comes in alignment with the decision of the Madras High on April 7, 2025 where the court extended the interim protection granted to Kamra to April 17, 2025.

Senior Advocate Navroz Seervai, representing Kamra, informed the court that the Madras High Court's order from Monday—granting an extension of anticipatory bail—had not yet been uploaded to the court’s website.

He therefore urged the Bombay High Court to take up the quashing petition the same day

Ultimately, the bench then scheduled the matter for April 16 and directed Additional Public Prosecutor Mankunwar Deshmukh, appearing for the State, to obtain necessary instructions in the meantime.

On March 24, the Khar police filed a case against Kamra following a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, alleging that Kamra referred to Shinde as a 'gaddar' (traitor).

Adding to the drama, Kamra had written to the Mumbai Police with a request to record his statement through video conferencing, after skipping the third consecutive summons issued on April 2, 2025.
