Judge Goes Viral for Savagely Putting Rioters in Their Place

Justice Joymalya Bagchi has officially taken oath as a judge of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administered the oath at a full court ceremony on Monday, March 17, 2025.

The Union government approved his appointment on March 10, 2025, following the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation on March 6, 2025. A key factor in the decision was the absence of a Chief Justice of India from the Calcutta High Court since Justice Altamas Kabir’s retirement in 2013.
Justice Bagchi is set to become the Chief Justice of India upon the retirement of Justice K.V. Viswanathan on May 25, 2031. He will serve as CJI until his retirement on October 2, 2031.
