Professor’s Voice Can’t Be Stifled: SC Greenlights Mahmudabad’s Freedom Of Speech

The Supreme Court bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi has acted upon the FIR against Ali Khan Mahmudabad, a professor at Ashoka University. The bench ruled that Mahmudabad is free to express his opinions and write articles, as long as they do not pertain to issues currently under judicial review. This decision allows him greater freedom in publishing his views while the investigation continues.

The court also questioned the investigative team about its progress in the ongoing Operation Sindoor case and expressed concern about its perceived misdirection.

This decision followed Mahmudabad's interim bail granted earlier in May, after his arrest related to two Facebook posts that had been criticized by the Haryana State Commission for Women.

The court has instructed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) complete its investigation within four weeks.
