As firefighters worked to control the flames, they uncovered a substantial amount of unaccounted cash scattered across multiple rooms. The incident report highlighted the unusual find, which quickly reached the ears of the judiciary.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna convened an urgent meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium, which unanimously recommended Justice Verma’s transfer back to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court. Before his Delhi posting in October 2021, he had served in Allahabad for years. While no formal charges have been disclosed, the move has sparked widespread speculation about the circumstances surrounding the cash discovery.
