Hanging by a thread, Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Rana, currently jailed in Los Angeles, has made a desperate last-minute plea to the US Supreme Court to block his extradition to India. Citing fears of torture due to his Pakistani Muslim identity, Rana is seeking an emergency stay on his transfer.

In his petition, it is submitted that he is battling multiple health issues, including an advanced cardiac aneurysm, Parkinson’s disease with cognitive decline, and a suspected case of bladder cancer. His legal team argued that his deteriorating condition raises concerns about whether he would survive long enough to stand trial.

This desperate legal move follows US President Donald Trump’s approval of his extradition on February 14, 2024. The decision came during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington.
