Judge Goes Viral for Savagely Putting Rioters in Their Place

On 6th February 2025, the Kerala High Court admitted Greeshma’s appeal challenging her death sentence while subsequently suspending the 3-year imprisonment of her maternal uncle Nirmalakumaran Nair, who was convicted under section 201 Indian Penal Code(IPC).

The Bench of Justice PB Suresh Kumar and Justice Jobin Sebastian sought the State's response to her plea contesting her conviction and death sentence, as well as to her application seeking suspension of the death penalty.
Greeshma's appeal stated that the investigation was “overly sensationalized and driven by a vilification campaign” to ensure her conviction and a death sentence. The petition also claimed that the lower court, “without any scientific evidence”, wrongly concluded that Sharon's death was due to poisoning. Additionally, the appeal asserted that the case does not qualify as "rarest of rare" and that no mitigation study was conducted before sentencing.
Greeshma was sentenced to death by the Additional District Sessions Court Neyyattinkara, for the murder of her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, in 2022. She had lured him into consuming an ayurvedic concoction laced with pesticide. Greeshma had been in a close relationship for over a year. However, Greeshma wished to end the relationship after her family arranged her marriage to another man from Kerala. Subsequently, she conspired with her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, and her mother to orchestrate Sharon’s death.
