Kunal Kamra Safe from Arrest: FIR Stays Alive

Comedian Kunal Kamra got a partial reprieve from the Bombay High Court on a petition filed by him seeking the quashing of a FIR lodged at Mumbai's Khar police station over his alleged "traitor" remark at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, during a stand-up show.

The Bombay High Court, while hearing the petition, granted Kamra protection from arrest but allowed the police to continue with the investigation.

The bench of Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice SM Modak ruled that if the police wish to question Kamra, a resident of Tamil Nadu, it must be done in Chennai with prior notice.

Additionally, the court directed that if a chargesheet is filed while his petition is pending, the trial court must not proceed with the case against Kamra.
