Judge Goes Viral for Savagely Putting Rioters in Their Place
The Supreme Court Collegium has summoned Allahabad High Court Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav for a meeting on December 17 following his controversial remarks against the Muslim community at a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) event on December 8. Justice Yadav’s statements, including the use of a slur and asserting that India should operate according to the majority’s wishes, have sparked widespread criticism and demands for action.
A formal complaint filed by the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJAR) has called for an in-house inquiry, while 55 MPs, led by Kapil Sibal, have submitted an impeachment motion to the Rajya Sabha. The Allahabad High Court has reassigned Justice Yadav to a limited roster amid the controversy. The collegium meeting aims to hear his side of the story, with potential actions ranging from counselling to an in-house inquiry.
The remarks have been condemned for violating judicial impartiality, while the VHP defended them as misinterpreted. The Supreme Court has already reviewed the speech transcript and is emphasising adherence to ethical judicial conduct.
