Calcutta HC Designates 81 Lawyers As Senior Advocates

The Calcutta High Court in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961 read with High Court at Calcutta, Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2023 in it Full Court Meeting held on 21st November, 2024 has designated 81 Advocates as Senior Advocates.
A notification to that effect was issued by the Registrar General of the High Court on 26th November, 2024.
The applications of other 48 candidates has been postponed to be considered at the next Full Court Meeting scheduled to be conducted in the 2nd week of April 2025.
The selection of the candidates were done after taking into consideration calibre, merit, ability, academic distinction of the Applicant Advocates, including his/her character, conduct and behaviour towards the Court and other members of the Bar. The court also took a note of the fact that there were no designations for over 8 years.
