On 06.03.2025, Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana's emergency application to put stay on his extradition to India has been rejected by Supreme Court of the United States.
Tahawwur Rana, currently jailed in Los Angeles, had made a desperate last-minute plea to the Supreme Court of the United States to block his extradition to India. Citing fears of torture due to his Pakistani Muslim Identity.
It was also contended that his extradition would contravene U.S. law and the United Nations Convention Against Torture, asserting that there are significant reasons to believe he would be subjected to torture if transferred to India.
In his petition, it was also submitted that he is battling multiple health issues, including an advanced cardiac aneurysm, Parkinson’s disease with cognitive decline, and a suspected case of bladder cancer. It was highlighted that his deteriorating condition raises concerns about whether he would survive long enough to stand trial.
