Brazil's Supreme Court Unfreezes Starlink & X Bank Accounts After $3 Million Transferred

Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes lifted “freezes” previously imposed on bank accounts of Starlink and “X” as the amount of 18.35 million reals ( $3.3 million) was transferred to Brazil, which was ordered earlier by the Brazil’s Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had ordered access to the “X” ’s social media platform blocked in Brazil, which is its sixth-biggest market in the World.

As reported earlier by "LawfulTalks.net", Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Elon Musk have been in a public feud for months as ‘X’ (formerly known as twitter) failed to comply with legal orders to block certain accounts accused of spreading “fake news” and hate messages. ‘X’ claimed that Justice Moraes threatened to arrest one of company’s legal representatives in Brazil if “X” did not comply.

Justice Moraes had earlier ordered that the social media giant "X" be taken down immediately in Brazil. The Judge had also frozen financial assets of Elon Musk’s 'Starlink' by issuing an order to block the accounts of the satellite internet network. The judge’s motive was to ensure compliance of the court's order regarding unpaid fines amounting to $3.28 million that he had previously slapped on “X” for ignoring judicial orders.

Earlier on September 2, a five-member panel of Brazil’s Supreme Court had voted unanimously to uphold the decision of Justice Moraes to block “X”, thereby ruling that the shut down of social media platform in Brazil would continue. In his usual style, Elon Musk had labelled Justice Moraes as “dictator”.  “X” was suspended till it complied with the orders of Justice Moraes.

According to Brazil’s Supreme Court, Judge Moraes has not yet withdrawn his decision to block access to “X” in Brazil since the issue about lack of legal representation has not been addressed, and “content removals” ordered by the Judge have not been fulfilled.
