SC’s Strong Caution: ECI Must Follow Law Or Risk Nullifying Bihar’s SIR

The Supreme Court has issued stern warning to Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of the Bihar elections and cautioned that any discovery of illegality in the methodology used by the ECI could lead to the entire revision process being nullified.

The bench clarified that it would not issue a piecemeal opinion on Bihar’s SIR, stressing that its final decision would be applicable to all SIR exercises nationwide, not limited to Bihar alone.

While expressing stern caution, the court also indicated its faith in the ECI, presuming that, as a constitutional body, the ECI would adhere to the law and mandatory rules in executing the SIR process.

Ultimately, the court scheduled October 7,2025 for the final hearing on the validity of the SIR process in Bihar.
