Allahabad HC Sets Aside Afzal Ansari's Conviction, Allows Him to Continue as MP

Senior advocate Dr. Milind Sathe has been appointed as the new Advocate General of Maharashtra, commencing from today.

The Maharashtra government finalized this decision during its cabinet meeting held in Nagpur. Sathe will now act as the official legal representative of the state in all judicial matters.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the development on X, noting that the Cabinet accepted Birendra Saraf's resignation earlier today and praised his dedicated service over more than three years. "At the same time, the State Cabinet approved the appointment of Milind Sathe as the new Advocate General of the state," Fadnavis' tweet stated.
This appointment follows the resignation of the previous Advocate General, Dr. Birendra Saraf, who stepped down in September 2025, citing personal reasons. Although Saraf had offered to continue serving until a replacement was arranged, the government moved forward with Sathe’s appointment.
Dr. Milind Sathe began his legal career in 1982 and was designated as a senior advocate by the Bombay High Court in 2005, after more than two decades of practice.
Throughout his career, he has taken on a wide range of significant cases, including public interest litigations and legal aid matters, and has also served as amicus curiae.
Beyond his legal practice, Sathe has acted as senior counsel for the State of Maharashtra, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, various other municipal bodies, and public sector entities. Moreover, he held the position of president of the Bombay Bar Association for seven years, from 2014 to 2021.
