Allahabad HC Sets Aside Afzal Ansari's Conviction, Allows Him to Continue as MP

Plans by Mumbai’s two leading bar Associations at the Bombay High Court– the Bombay Bar Association and the Advocates Association of Western India had planned to hold Special General Body Meetings to oppose the High Court’s reported proposal to start working on Saturdays.

Delegations of senior advocates met the Chief Justice Sri Chandrashekhar recently, to convey the Bar’s opposition to the move. It is reliably learnt that the Chief Justice informed the lawyers’ delegation that “there is no such proposal at present before the High Court.”
Following this, both the BBA and AAWI issued notices stating that the proposed Special General Body Meetings, which were to discuss the High Court’s proposal, have been deferred.
The Bombay High Court generally functions for around 210 working days each year. The Court operates from Monday to Friday, with judicial hours from 11 am to 5 pm. Like other High Courts in India, it also observes scheduled vacations, including summer, Diwali, and winter breaks, during which only urgent matters are heard by vacation benches.
