‘Let’s See How You Go Home Alive’: Female Judge Threatened

In a shocking incident that unfolded in a Court of the Judicial Magistrate, 1st class, South-west District/Dwarka courts, New Delhi, a convict and his attorney displayed disparaging behavior towards a female judge after the individual was found guilty in a cheque bounce case.

Following the conviction, both the convict and his legal representative unleashed a barrage of threats and abuses directed at Shivangi Mangla, who was presiding over the matter.

The accused went so far as to attempt throwing an object at the judge in protest of her ruling, exhorting his lawyer to do whatever was necessary to influence the outcome of the case in his favor.

The convict was heard making aggressive statements “Tu hai kya chiz ... ki tu bahar mil dekhte hai kaise zinda ghar jaati hai ... (Who even are you... just meet me outside and let’s see how you make it back home alive),” challenging the judge and questioning her authority with hostile words that suggested a personal confrontation outside the courtroom.

The situation escalated further as the same individuals allegedly subjected the judge to ongoing harassment, both psychologically and physically.

They pressured her to step down from her position, demanding that she exonerate the accused. Their tirades included filing complaints against her aiming to coerce her into resigning from her judicial role.

In response to this unacceptable behavior, the judge recorded these incidents and asserted that action would be taken against the convict before the National Commission for Women.

The Court issued a directive to the convict's lawyer to provide an explanation regarding his conduct during the incident, warning of potential criminal contempt proceedings against him for his misbehavior with the judge.

The Court also ordered that notice be issued to the counsel for the accused to show cause in writing providing relevant explanation for the conduct shown by him and further to explain as to why he shall not be referred to the Hon’ble High Court for initiating criminal contempt proceedings against him for such misbehavior.

The matter is now put up for arguments on point of sentence/order on sentence/FP on 05.04.2025 at 10.00 AM.
