In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court today upheld the Bombay High Court's decision to cancel the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s lookout circular against actor Rhea Chakraborty and her family, related to the investigation following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. 

A bench of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan dismissed the CBI's petition as "frivolous," noting the petition appeared to be influenced by the high-profile nature of the accused.

Justice Gavai remarked, "We are warning you. You are filing such a frivolous petition only because one of the accused is a high-profile person. It will be dismissed with exemplary cost." The bench emphasized that both Rhea and her family, who were previously investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and cooperated with authorities, have "deep roots in society."

In 2020, following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, an FIR filed in Patna prompted a CBI probe and the issuance of lookout circulars against Rhea and her family members. The Bombay High Court, however, quashed the circulars, stating insufficient grounds for such a measure.
