In a significant move towards promoting transparency and public accountability in the Indian judiciary, the Supreme Court of India has announced a comprehensive disclosure of the process followed in appointments to the High Courts and the Supreme Court.The Supreme Court of India has published the complete process of appointments of the High Courts and Supreme Courts including the role assigned to the High Court Collegium, the role and inputs received from the State Government, Government of India and consideration by the Supreme Court Collegium.
During the period of 9th November 2022 to 5th May 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium approved the proposals for appointment of High Court Judges. Details regarding these appointments have been officially uploaded on the Supreme Court Website. The information includes their names, their respective High Court,source- whether from Service or Bar,date of recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium,date of notification by the Department of Justice ,date of appointment, special category (SC/ST/OBC/Minority/Woman) and whether the candidate is related with any sitting or retired High Court/Supreme Court Judge.
Further, In the major stride for accountability , the full Court of the Supreme Court of India on 1st April, 2025 had decided that the statement of assets of the Judges shall be released in the public domain on the website.
Pursuant to the above, and in a first of its kind move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability, the assets of the judges have been officially released in public domain.The declarations of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, along with those of twenty other judges have been officially declared.
