Allahabad HC Sets Aside Afzal Ansari's Conviction, Allows Him to Continue as MP

The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Union Government, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Confidence Petroleum India Limited over a petition filed by six LPG distributors who complained about receiving fewer domestic cooking gas cylinders than required.

Distributors Seek More LPG Supply
A bench of Justice Anil S. Kilor and Justice Raj D. Wakode took this step while hearing the distributors’ urgent plea. The distributors have asked the court to direct authorities to increase the supply of household LPG cylinders.
The court has fixed the next hearing for Monday.
Court Orders Policy Compliance:
In the meantime, the court ordered that the government’s policy on the storage and distribution of domestic LPG cylinders must be strictly followed.
The distributors, represented by advocates Shyam Dewani and Saahil Dewani, told the court that even though the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has a clear policy giving priority to LPG supply for domestic use, Confidence Petroleum India Limited has failed to increase the supply of cylinders for households.
They said the company also ignored their repeated requests to stop LPG exports and give priority to the local market.
Global Crisis Hits LPG Supply:
The petition states that global crude supply problems caused by the Iran–Israel conflict have disrupted oil supplies from countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Syria. This has affected LPG production.
“In view of the emerging supply situation, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had issued orders directing that LPG production and supply for domestic consumers be given priority,” the petition stated.
