Women’s Day Power Walk: CJI Surya Kant Leads Historic March From Sukhna Lake

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu led a Women's Day walkathon in Chandigarh on Sunday morning as part of the India International Disputes Week (IIDW) 2026 festivities.

The walkathon began at Sukhna Lake and covered about 2.5 to 3 kilometres, ending at the Open Hand Monument in the Capitol Complex, where the Punjab and Haryana High Court is located.

Many women lawyers, students and men also took part in the event. CJI Kant walked along with judges of the High Court and others who joined the march.

Speaking to the media after the event, he described it as “a historic moment to spotlight women’s rights.” He also said that taking part in the walkathon made him feel “truly uplifted.”
